What Exactly is a DA Rating?
Created by Moz, Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). A DA rating ranges from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater ability to rank.
How It's Calculated
DA is calculated by combining multiple factors into a single score. These include:
- Total number of links
- Linking root domains
- TrustFlow & Citation metrics
The DA Myth
It's critical to remember: Google does NOT use Domain Authority as a ranking factor. It is a third-party metric used to estimate how Google sees your site.
"Compare yourself to competitors, not to perfection."
What is a "Good" DA Rating?
A "good" DA rating depends entirely on your niche. For example:
- DA 1-10: New or very niche websites.
- DA 20-30: Established small business sites.
- DA 40-50: Industry authorities in smaller niches.
- DA 60-80: Major national publications and brands.
- DA 90+: Global giants (Facebook, Wikipedia, etc.).
The best way to judge your rating is to look at the top 5 results for your target keyword. If they all have a DA of 50 and yours is 45, you're in the right ballpark.
